Outdoor Futsal Program Status

ASC Community Members,

Thank you for the email and your interest in the ASC 2021 Outdoor Futsal Program!

We are aware of the recent news regarding the suspension of all Anne Arundel County Recreation & Parks programs and also the closure of AA County owned facilities to organized activities, practices, and games, effective November 16, 2020. ASC will continue to evaluate local government/health guidelines and remains hopeful to offer safe and meaningful soccer programming in January/February 2021.

At this time, our plan to start the outdoor league on January 9th will move forward, however, please know that the county’s decision to close county owned facilities to organized activities may impact our ability to conduct the outdoor program at the Boys & Girls Club turf field. Due to limited space, it is still suggested that players and teams sign-up to guarantee their spot in the league. In the event that county restrictions are not loosened over the next 8+ weeks, and that we are forced to cancel the outdoor league, we will take the appropriate steps to justly refund payments, cancel, and/or transfer registrations for the Winter Outdoor League. While the landscape may continue to shift over the next several weeks and months, we have multiple contingency plans in place that, we feel, will allow our community to have a meaningful soccer program this winter, as long as everyone involved remains flexible throughout. ASC’s community partner, and our normal location for winter programming, the Salvation Army of Annapolis, remains available for indoor programming. Here, our preference is to offer training group times (no league/games) for a very reduced number of players in a controlled environment. We will continue to explore this option, in accordance with local government/health guidelines, as well and/or in addition to the proposed outdoor futsal league.

In conclusion, if we are able to put on an organized, meaningful, and safe soccer program, to an audience seeking just that, we will proceed with planning for January/February programming. Our Leadership Team will continuously evaluate the status of the external environment and provide winter program updates to our community every three weeks (by 12/7 and 12/28). ASC may also provide periodical and/or more frequent updates as more information becomes available.

Thank you, stay well, and stay safe,
